Quality professional teachers are the pillars to quality education. In order to achieve the target of quality education, Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh is pleased to announce launch of Associate Degree in Education (ADE) in twelve (12) Elementary Colleges to cover the whole of Sindh province. ADE (Elementary) is the two years program leading to four years B.Ed. (Honors) program. HEC approved ADE Elementary) will replace existing Courses (CT, PTC) or Diploma in Education and will serve as professional qualification for future teachers. ADE graduates will be needed to complete two more years of education to get their 4 years B.Ed. (Honors) Elementary.
Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority (STEDA) is established to oversee and regulate the teacher training activities and to maintain the standards of the trainings and the training providers. Government of Sindh is enriched with 25 institutes for initial teacher education, delivering out
dated pre-service training courses. Having the two policy initiatives of
(i) National Education Policy &
(ii) Teacher Education Development and USAID Pre-STEP led rationalization study, focusing on updated and standardized pre-service teacher education trainings; it became the foremost responsibility of Education Department to introduce the higher professional qualification for teachers. Accordingly following measures have been taken:
The existing PTC, CT courses have been ceased to be existed from Academic Session 2011-12 and onwards,
A two-year ADE program leading to 4-year B.Ed. Honors (HEC approved) has been introduced in Sindh.
The National Education Policy 2009 envisages that the quality of teacher education must be raised. Therefore, a bachelor degree with a B.Ed. shall be the requirement for teaching at the elementary level as well as the secondary and higher secondary level by 2018 by phasing out existing CT and PTC courses. Teacher Education and Development (TED) Policy, approved in 2009, also states that "Upgrading the Pre-Service (ITE) regime in Sindh from existing certification courses (CT, PTC) to standard based course/program and later to graduation as entry qualification for teaching profession".
