ADE

Associate Degree in Education encourages a change in teaching approaches and learning ways from an overly- reliance teacher-centered to learner­ centered to encourage the development of skills and dispositions. This also involves a change in the way the prospective teachers are to be assessed. In the new degree, the assessment of prospective teachers will continuously be done during the semester. The creativity in new program is based on National Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan (NPSTP). It is designed to help prospective teachers to achieve the highest quality of delivery as described by NPSTP 2009.

Aims & Objectives

The Associate Degree in Education (ADE) focuses on contemporary pedagogical techniques, adequate knowledge of subject matter, and development of effective instructional, teaching communication, creative and critical thinking skills.

The objectives of the ADE program are:

Equip teachers with knowledge, skills and dispositions as required by the National Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan (NPSTP), to become an elementary school teacher.

Offer students a teacher education program that allows them to move seamlessly through a four year B.Ed, first by completing the ADE in the first two years and by completing the remaining two years of the program immediately, or at a later date.

Features

ADE leading to B.Ed (Hons.) Elementary is a transitional two-year program of 64-68 credit hours and is composed of four semesters of 16-18 weeks each.

The scheme of studies emphasizes on teaching practice of longer duration. Fifteen credit hours are exclusively included to promote practicum and practical work in the new program besides the teaching practice within each course.

ADE has been in the process of piloting in two elementa1y colleges namely GECE Hussainabad, Karachi and GECE (W) Hyderabad. These colleges are affiliated with University of Karachi and University of Sindh respectively.

Eligibility Criteria

Both male and female candidates with Sindh domicile are eligible to apply for admission in ADE.
GECE (W) Hussainabad Karachi and GECE (W) Hyderabad offer admissions for female candidates only, while in other colleges 50% of seats are reserved for male and 50% for female candidates.
50% of the seats are allocated for the candidates having the domicile of specific district where ADE is being offered in the GECE while 50% of seats are allocated for the candidates having the domicile of Sindh province. Each allocation of seats will further be bifurcated as under:

Rural: 60%, Urban: 40%

Science: 70%,Arts/Humanities/Commerce: 30%

The admission will purely be based on merit to be decided on the basis of Percentage of Marks obtained in FA/F.Sc. or Equivalent qualification.
The application forms will be available on payment of Rs. 200 from the respective colleges.

Scholarship Criteria

USAID -Pre-STEP and CIDA Debt-Swap Program funded scholarship will be awarded to the student fulfilling the criteria of ADE scholarship policy of the Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh.
Enrolled in ADE Course at one of the Teacher Education Institutions as declared by Government of Sindh.

• Having passed the test for scholarship.

• Performance at each Semester with at least B grade.

• Having at least 80% attendance at ADE courses in each semester.
